Testing new papers

Paper is key. From more important to less: Paper - ink - pen.

Still happy with my dear vergé paper but I'm open to options. Somehow the paper has shown feathering a couple of times. First time it happened was traveling in Vietnam with hot temperatures and humidity. I tried to reproduce those conditions at home but paper worked so well even under the most extreme tests.

So I'm quite sure what caused that feathering: Lignen, the "glue" which joins the fibers together, inside paper is gone or damaged. But I have no idea why that happens only sometimes.

I'm looking for a cream paper with texture, about 100m/m2.

Anyways it's fun trying new things. And more papers to come soon. I will post my conclusions.

Testing new papers

I'm still trying to find the perfect paper even when I know it doesn't exist. However  I feel lucky to try these AMAZING Hahnemühle papers. They were so kind to send me some samples of my favorite one: Verge paper (also known as laid paper) in cream color.

All of them are excellent. See the amazing texture! Watercolors look better than ever. No see through, feathering, bleeding, ghosting, etc. The only finding I detected is the surface could peel easily when using an eraser (see photo bellow). Maybe I found the way to transform this weakness into a positive power.

Serious candidate for my next notebook.
Laid paper texture.

The Surface peels after using an eraser.

Galgo paper

Many people ask me which paper I use in my notebooks. I've using laid paper during the last years, cream color, 100g/m2. The brand I still use is Galgo, a classic Spanish brand which shows a "galgo" (a kind of dog) in the pages. It's great quality paper and it can stand fountain pen ink and small watercolors. What I love the most is the texture and feeling when it's touched. Something impossible to describe. I knew it was going to be "the paper" since I used for the first time.
Unfortunately Galgo factory closed not many years ago. It was a surprised for such a brand I remember since I was a child. I was able to keep a stock of paper for many notebooks ahead.
